As part of the commitment of the new
century initiative (NCI) in creating awareness on immunization in Enugu state.
NCI conducted a sensitization program on Monday 5th December at Ngwo
Uno public health centre Enugu state.
The aim of the visit was in line with the
objectives of WAVA to sensitize the nursing women on the importance of
immunization as well as creating awareness on the need to prioritize the
funding of immunization.
The visit disclosed the lack of
awareness of the importance of immunization by the women as most of them
regarded immunization as a waste of time while some viewed it as just a mere
obligation.
The NCI members who addressed the women
explained the meaning and importance of immunization to the nursing women and
also explained to them that it’s not just an obligation but a necessity as the
health of their children depended on immunization.
Also, the health workers were encouraged
by NCI to never relent in their work and to keep encouraging the women to come
for immunization as such will reduce the rate of child mortality.
Finally, the health workers in their
statement declared their gratitude to WAVA for their advocacy in immunization
and urges WAVA to continue with their works for a disease free Nigeria.
